Must we view an octopus as a friend, a saviour, a teacher? Couldn't we simply settle for not eating them? Go to Full Review

“My Octopus Teacher” is a beautiful, moving, and reflective experience. It’s also a little crazy and doesn’t do much to hide its aggressive tugs on your heartstrings. Go to Full Review

While this approach leaves the human element of the film's story often feeling like a bit of an afterthought, it still manages to garner an emotional response through the intimacy and purity of its story. Go to Full Review

Roddy 05/06/2021 Love this film, one of the best nature docs ever made. See more Judith S 05/01/2021 Wonderful photography touching story of a man learning to a love because of an octopus. See more Ann C @Crazy-8 Feb 6 While visually quite stunning, the subject matter is very unsettling. It’s not really a nature documentary. It’s about a man going through a midlife crisis who becomes obsessed with an octopus. He repeatedly says nature photographers should not interfere, yet he inserts himself into the habitat of an octopus, stalks it daily with cameras and lights causing it to flee its den, and puts it in danger. He says he should be just an observer, but prides himself on gaining its trust and becoming its friend. He picks and chooses when to be a friend and when to be an observer… always choosing to be observer when the octopus is in danger, instead of choosing to be its friend. Overall, the movie left me feeling sad. The octopus never got to live in the wild as nature intended. It had no privacy. It lived almost its entire life under the lens of a camera.
