In a film based on Phyllis Reynolds Naylor's children's books, Alice McKinley (Alyson Stoner) is an 11-year-old girl coping with her mother's death. Her father (Luke Perry) moves her and her brother (Lucas Grabeel) to a new town and, as if that weren't enough, she promptly embarrasses herself in front of her newly minted crush (Dylan McLaughlin) and gets assigned a spiteful homeroom teacher (Penny Marshall). The only way to survive these adolescent pitfalls is to escape into her imagination.

The story is mildly interesting, but the device of breaking the fourth wall really didn't work here. It took away some of the pathos the situations could have engendered. Meh.
