In the City of Brotherly Love, eight-year-old Peter Flood helplessly watches on as his little sister is killed by a neighbor's reckless driving. Tormented with grief and resentment, his father finds revenge as the only solution, leaving lasting generational wounds. Thirty years later, Peter still wrestles with the guilt he feels over his sister's death and his father's vengeance. As he tries to distance himself from the criminal family business, his cousin, Michael, becomes more powerful in the hierarchy. Bonded by blood, neither man can escape violence as they are dragged further into a chilling cycle of betrayal and retribution.

As uninspired the direction may be, the screenplay fares even worse with an indulgence in shallow characters, stale dialogue and tired tropes of a masculine criminal enterprise with emotional bonds that are incredibly weak.

I was expecting more. Had the story and tone of a gritty crime drama. Love the mob stories of the low level in on glamorous neighborhood guys. But this story felt dull and cut corners to save on budget. Not showing shooting scene. Or showing guys get shot one and presume their dead. Not having a complete ending. It felt they took choices to save on budget rather than to have a compelling full story.

A movie that takes it time to develop the tension of a man who must decide whether or not to back up his brother or to kill him before he destroys everything and everyone around him

What should have been a powerful film about generation pain and problems, instead comes out as a boring crime family just dealing. Great actors with decent acting - but the substance after the history is revealed doesn't hold up.

It's better than these critical reviews tend to indicate. But there is no question: it's indeed grim, bleak, and plodding. Circumstances and events lead inexorably to predestined outcomes.

Synopsis
