Critics Consensus

While its relentless, gory violence is more faithful to the Robert E. Howard books, Conan the Barbarian forsakes three-dimensional characters, dialogue, and acting in favor of unnecessary 3D effects.

The film’s secret weapon proves to be Freddy Krueger-fingernailed witch Marique — imagine a cross between Madeline Kahn in History of the World: Part I and Lady Gaga — that should garner Rose McGowan a Razzie and an Oscar. Go to Full Review

It is right that a new Conan film must look for its own identity, but one immediately notices that in the absence of Milius's saga-paced direction... and Schwarzenegger's special-effect physique, very little has been introduced to replace them. Go to Full Review

But Nispel and his trio of screenwriters do nothing with their simplistic premise, crowding the screen with too much digital imagery and making every villainous character look like they just stepped out of some macabre Saturday morning cartoon. Go to Full Review

JANE S @Sawdust66 3d If no stars was available even that wouldn't be worth the effort See more Enrique R @EnriqueRamosLovesMovies Jan 26 Conan The Barbarian 3D, a horrible movie. This movie is easily one of the worst movie reboots ever. This is Jason Momoa’s weakest and worst movie and performance. I really don’t see Marcus Nipsel’s vision in this movie. The action sequences are ultra gory and fine. The CGI and the practical effects on the villains or monsters are horrifying. It also has a ridiculously amount of nudity especially with the villain. Also, really quick, this movie has some of the worst 3D I’ve ever seen. But, overall, I give Conan The Barbarian 3D a 3/10 or 2.5/5 stars. See more Nathan J. @NathanDirector Nov 28 Rating: 4.7/10 A loud, bloody reboot with a strong lead performance. Highlights - Strong Lead: Jason Momoa embodies Conan with ferocity and physical presence. - Gore and Action: Director Marcus Nispel delivers on R-rated violence. Criticisms - Generic Plot: A forgettable "fetch quest" lacking depth and philosophy. - Weak Supporting Cast: One-dimensional villains and romance feel forced. Verdict A misfire highlighting the importance of a good script. Jason Momoa's performance can't salvage the generic direction and forgettable plot. See more Gordon J @RT80890238 Oct 18 Diving back into the 2011 reboot of Conan the Barbarian, I was utterly captivated by Jason Momoa's portrayal of the Cimmerian warrior. His physique is a marvel—rippling with raw, primal power that screams ancient berserker. The action is pure adrenaline-fueled poetry. From savage sword clashes in mist-shrouded ruins to brutal, bone-crunching brawls atop crumbling altars, each sequence pulses with kinetic fury. Choreography honors the source material's grit, blending practical stunts with just enough VFX for epic scale—think thundering chariot pursuits and demonic hordes that feel perilously real. What elevates it all is the authentic Hyborian vibe: sun-baked deserts, shadowy sorcerous lairs, and a pantheon of forgotten gods that whisper of Robert E. Howard's mythic pulp roots. This isn't sanitized fantasy; it's a blood-soaked saga of vengeance and wanderlust, evoking the barbaric dawn of civilization. At 113 minutes, it's a lean, mean thrill ride that left me craving more. 10/10 See more Ari V @RT59419633 Sep 10 Coked up nonsense useful mainly for its occasional moments of unintentional absurdity. See more Yu S @RT72215134 Sep 3 bought this on accident trying to buy the original movie , watched it anyway, so horrifically bad just a direct knock off of the mummy , acting was great actually all around and set design/costuming but the ending felt like extremely dissatisfying - those lovebirds risked their lives for each other and for what ?? so he could drop her off at home and wave goodbye ?? stop it lmao this movie was a victim of the times See more Read all reviews
