While it doesn’t explore every corner of her remarkable life and career, Dolly Parton: Here I Am is a worthwhile tribute to a country music legend whose influence extends far beyond country music. Go to Full Review

Michael D @MichaelX 2d In the days following Dolly Parton’s passing last week, some friends turned to special screenings of "9 to 5", but we decided to watch this warm, brisk 2019 documentary by Francis Whately, followed by a full Dolly weekend of greatest hits and performance videos. Some losses hit differently, and this was one of them. This particular doc covers the highlights of her extraordinary career, including her formative years with Porter Wagoner, through talking heads that include, somewhat inexplicably but delightfully, Kylie Minogue, as well as Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Linda Perry. It notably omits "Steel Magnolias" (in the gay pantheon of all-time great films) and her other films, and also neglected is her iconic trio with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, which feels like a genuine missed opportunity. But there’s plenty of Dolly with her warmth, her wit, and her rhinestone wisdom, to make it worth your time. She was truly one of a kind and the world is worse off without her in it.
