Tsidi, a single mother, is forced to move in with her estranged mother Mavis, a live-in domestic worker caring obsessively for her catatonic white 'Madam'. As Tsidi tries to heal her family however, a sinister spectre begins to stir.

Critics Consensus

Even if its ambitions are occasionally unwieldy, Good Madam offers effectively slow-burning horror anchored by thought-provoking themes.

“Good Mother” rattles not with gore but with the weight of history and injustice.

Doesn’t shy away from magic spells and arcane African blood rituals, but the real dark mojo that Bass is bringing so starkly to the big screen involves the cycles of privilege and exclusion that seems to persist through every attempt at exorcism.

Good Madam is an intriguing, atmospheric movie which doesn’t quite tie up all its sinister portents and implications in a satisfying ending. Yet there is something very unsettling in it.

By the mark of 60 minutes in, Good Madam alters its tone completely and builds up for a disappointing mess. [...] Each character’s motivations seem influenced by narrative choices that weren’t really there, leaving me wondering “is that it?”

While it doesn’t always stick the landing in delivering key messages, outstanding performances and an effective sound design drive up the entertainment factor in this intensely unsettling Shudder original.

The supernatural foundation is laid out like “Hereditary” (2018). Tsidi’s worst nightmare is falling under the spell of the lie that Diane is “family.”

I'm at a loss for words on this one except to say that objectively it's a good film.

‘Good Madam' may have good intentions but something is amiss. However, the actors are phenomenal and make it worth the watch.
