What to Know

Critics Consensus

Aiming high in ambition but scoring low in execution, In the Blink of an Eye is a sprawling meditation on the human condition that turns up few compelling revelations.

Director Andrew Stanton weaves together three different stories across three different eras of human history. The result is a streaming epic as painfully sappy as it is structurally ambitious. Go to Full Review

Stanton’s long-delayed film is looking to capture the fragile wonder of life, but it can be po-faced, lacking detail and occasionally daft. Go to Full Review

“In the Blink of an Eye” proves yet again that Stanton is a dreamer, with an unshakeable faith in humanity. That’s not nothing. Go to Full Review

For a film supposedly trying to suggest something deep with its messaging it ultimately delivers something surprisingly hollow. Go to Full Review

The links between the three stories are fairly groan-inducing, and the attempt at an uplifting message is barely worthy of the kind of silent nod you give someone who lets you into traffic. Go to Full Review

Yo A @RT50402781 2d Some of the sour comments by critics show a lack of understanding of the rigours of film making.. if it’s not your thing, just say it and drop the critical arrogance. I enjoyed it but i disagree with the premise that some pre ordained life span should be submissively accepted, like some gift from god. In my opinion, the only measure of a life span is possibility.. a flea lives a full life in a day, a dog in 15 years, and at certain times in human history, 50 was considered a long life. I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer.. some believe life’s end enriches that life, while others like myself, will "Rage, rage against the dying of the light". This filmmaker brings us to some distant shore where together, we look to the horizon. Bravo ! See more Seed M @Jardougman 3d I'm yet another person who doesn't understand the terrible reception this movie got from critics. I found it to be quite entertaining, and definitely do not believe it deserves the low score. While it may not have fully succeeded in having the emotional or philosophical impact it was going for, it was definitely still well worth the watch. See more Terri S @terriatbaok 5d I don't understand the negative ratings. The way the story lines intermingle make it an interesting movie. See more Ahmed E @RT05796391 Apr 13 I'm not sure about all the negative ratings, but I found this movie to be an interesting experience. It's not as bad as the ratings suggest; it just isn't very exciting because it doesn't showcase the three storylines enough. It feels like it doesn't touch on enough details so you won't feel attached to it or you can't relate well. However, I would recommend this movie to friends who don't get bored easily. See more Sam A @JustSammy Apr 12 This isn’t nearly as bad as people are saying it is, and it’s got more to offer than blockbusters. See more Kathy R @Sonny1951 Apr 10 We happen on to this movie, it seemed really weird at first but we got really in to what was happening after we understood what it was really about. Very thought provoking and interesting for us. Start with an open mind as we did and by the end we said, wow. See more Read all reviews
