Matthew D @OceanSage 6d Jan de Bont’s action adventure movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life (2003) is full of absurd setpieces and action sequences, but it is so much fun to watch. I like Tomb Raider more because it is faster, shorter, and more personal in its emotional approach to adventure with a purpose. The Cradle of Life is too ambitious and forgets to focus on Lara Croft and adventure instead of the action scenes. I definitely prefer the cozier adventure of Tomb Raider. Angelina Jolie is still a smokeshow as Lara Croft in Lindy Hemming’s sultry and playful costumes for the archeological heroine. Jolie is a great dramatic actress in roles like Gia or Girl, Interrupted, but you can see how much fun she’s having as Lara Croft. Her smile and excitement really make the movie as she taunts every man she meets with teasing comments and funny one liners. All the shootouts and fight choreography are more intense this time around and Jolie is up to the task. She really was excellent as Lara Croft. Thank you! It's the Pandora's box this time and you can guess how it goes. Villains want it and need it, but Lara tags along and won't let them have it or get it. To be honest, the cinematography was not as appreciable as the earlier one, but if that is what I have to trade for a decent PG version, I am more than willing to do so. Then there's Croft's romance arc which was intense and intriguing. It didn't have a compelling reason, but it had a compelling chemistry. My favourite thing about the script is probably "bugger." It was a fun watch—again, nothing exciting or hooking, I even did a bit of crochet in between (I'm an amateur and my eyes have to follow my hook). Ok so even though i prefer the first films action the story here is by far the better of the two, of course angelina jolie plays classic lara so well and even better in this movie like she’s plucked straight out of the game, the cast number of locations we visit in this movie as well gives it a universal feeling and classic tomb raider vibes as lara goes to different locations, while the action is still top notch and angelina’s version of lara is picture perfect, the only problem i have is giving her a love interest as lara works well in her own she doesn’t need a man, that small nitpick aside i absolutely love this movie and the first they both capture the feel and vibe of the classic tomb raider games phenomenally, and angelina jolie is about the perfect classic lara croft you can get giving her her classic banter wit sexiness and brains as well as her sarcasm See more Read all reviews
