In this love letter to the era of the video store, Nyla brings in a collection of films to quite possibly the last video store on earth only to discover she has the legendary 'cursed tape'. A film that holds the power to connect the real world to the dimension where movie fantasy exists as reality. Nyla and the video store owner unwittingly awaken a long-dormant curse that unleashes a series of classic cinematic villains plucked from the bowels of the B-movies themselves.

It’s all a glorious ode to the schlocky titles we loved in the ‘80s, right down to the simple visual and practical effects. Think Charles Band meets early Sam Raimi, and you won’t be far off.

Moody neon’s, a pounding synth score, and buckets of gore, create the perfect fertile ground for this loving throwback to the movies that made horror and cult cinema what it is today.

That was absolutely hilarious. It was nostalgic and I loved it. I just finished it on Amazon like 5 minutes ago, and I created an account with this site just to rate this movie. I NEED A SEQUEL. I don't like slasher films , but I do like comedy and sometimes weird off beat stuff , catches my eye, and this is just as hilarious as the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The way it combined so many horror films, just bravo!

Sorry, not a review, voicing a complaint about videotape-themed movies. I would have stayed with the movie, but... Videotapes did not, never did distort every 10 seconds. Annoying. Yes, we know it's videotape. We don't need to be reminded! Go find another editing toy to play with.

As someone who lives in Edmonton, where this video store (The Lobby) actually exists, and who has met Kevin in real life, I’ll admit I had a soft spot going in. But even setting that aside, this is a beautifully put together love letter to horror and films from the 80s and 90s. It’s funny, creative, packed with great practical and special effects, and has a score that perfectly matches the tone. It knows exactly what it is and leans in. Unfortunately, another film with the same title came out the same year (a rom-com), which seems to have caused some confusion (as seen here on Rotten Tomatoes) A lot of reviews don’t even appear to be about this movie at all, which is a shame. With the right streaming platform and a bit more visibility, I could absolutely see this becoming a cult favourite. Easily one of the most enjoyable horror-comedies I’ve watched in a long time. The DVD is full of great extras as well - worth every penny.

Fun and silly, filled with old school nostalgia. I enjoyed the easter eggs relating to other films including Psycho Goreman which is one of my faves. Production is decent and the 80s style score is pretty good.
