Bill T. @btreakle Feb 6, 2026 “Waltzes from Vienna “ This is the story of Johann Strauss. One of the great musical minds of the 1930s. John’s krause’s father did not approve of his musical interest or abilities but rather wanted him to work in a bakery. And this is a story of how that all came about and eventually music became the focal point of Johann Strauss. Along the way he felt love devotion and music so this tells the story from both sides of the musical interest another early talkie film by Alfred Hitchcock as director this one did not disappoint in typical Hitchcock magic. I love the costumes and the hairdos of the day even in black and white it was still very intense and very vivid. I don’t wanna spoil this film so I’m gonna leave it there and if you’re a Hitchcock band you will certainly enjoy this one as well. Strauss' Great Waltz meanders through a story about the inspiration behind The Blue Danube. And while I love the song, I found it very difficult to pay attention to this film. It's mostly fluff. See more Apr 7, 2017 Hitchcock described this film as the 'lowest ebb of his career'...you can see why. This whole period of his British films is so poor really, only one or two of them really still stand up to scrutiny and those are the ones where he seemed to have more creative control. This feels a million miles away from anything he would go on to do. See more Mar 25, 2014 Master of Suspense Alfred Hitchcock directs this...pretty lame semi-musical about Strauss writing "The Blue Danube". Hitchcock would later say that it was a low-point in his career and he essentially made it because he wanted to keep working and had nothing better to do. One thing I can say for it (and Hitchcock seemed to agree) it taught him a good deal about how sound should be used in film, and he learned new tricks in sound editing and melding music with the picture, and as he would one day mix the two so wonderfully, I have to give this film some credit. It isn't particularly worth your time, but I'm happy Hitchcock had the opportunity to learn on this picture.
