Instead of getting caught up in Mikey’s challenges and fears, one is more aware of filmmaking decisions and screwy timeline choices, diminishing the nostalgic rush Gray is laboring to provide. Go to Full Review

Michael K @RT99896357 1h The cast is a terrific group of young actors, and while the story is simple and fun, it carries a genuine sense of nostalgia that stays with you. This isn't an Oscar-worthy technical blockbuster—and it doesn't need to be. The movie punches well above its budget and feels like the kind of wholesome summer film they simply don't make anymore. No violence, drugs, sex, or heavy-handed messaging. Just a straightforward coming-of-age story told through the eyes of 15-year-old Mikey. For me, it brought back memories of my own youth and reminded me of the kind of childhood I'm trying to give my own children in an era of social media, political correctness, and kids increasingly being denied the freedom to simply be kids. American Summer isn't trying to reinvent cinema. It's doing something much simpler—and, in its own way, much more meaningful: telling a good, wholesome story that makes you remember what being young felt like. Well done. See more Brenda L @RT43058391 4h Such a fun and nostalgic movie, especially for anyone who grew up in small town America in a baseball family. Took me right back to the early 80s when things were definitely more simple. Thanks, Mike Gray for the reminder. See more Tom T @RT02769055 4h Such a feel good movie for the end of summer!!!
