Critics Consensus

A sparkling rom-com that satirizes modern social mores with good-natured wit and a lovely rapport between Angourie Rice and Spike Fearn, Finding Emily makes a tried-and-true formula feel brand new.

Flaws aside, it’s ultimately a pleasant enough way to beat the heat, grab a few laughs, take in a fine soundtrack and find yourself in some good company. Go to Full Review

I found this movie quite charming, largely because I think the the leads in it are really great together, Spike Fearn and Angourie Rice. Go to Full Review

Occasionally the film gets a little too caught up in its own adorableness...but for the most part “Finding Emily” is just quirky enough, with a lovely sense of place and a few effective nods to “When Harry Met Sally …” for the rom-com completists. Go to Full Review

Finding Emily doesn’t exactly reinvent the romantic comedy, but it doesn’t need to. Go to Full Review

There is something so punk rock about a movie that so earnestly wears its heart on its sleeve, that sticks to the formula but still manages to be about something, about characters who feel real even amidst the oversized premise. Go to Full Review

James D 1d This has a manic energy that can't help but make you smile. All the characters were funny and it's a little more subversive than it let's on. See more Joel 1d A wildly pleasant reminder that a paint by numbers story can be told with so much heart and charm that it doesn't matter. The second movie I've seen this year commit to a musical performance and fucking nail it. Like I truly never expected a white guy playing an acoustic guitar on campus could actually work. Anyways the 318 number being all over this movie was really jarring since that's my area code. Please go see this really fun romcom because this is what I want from romcoms. See more Mr. Bear 1d Very funny and enjoyable romance. See more jesse v 1d wow. a movie where the cast is self aware of the conversations they say and the environments they're in. if you're too american, you'll need subtitles. this is how you write college students, though why are all the bars hosts gay/trans? and why didn't see more of owen's dorm life? okay maybe the modern subtle social issues and commentary made me take a deep sigh. also the office high top scene was clearly fake due to lack of seagulls flying in the background. i would have loved it better without the misogyny and social issues outrcry subtext in the second act, and the purposeful england shots and environments in the third act. I'm surprised how rarely phones are used here for communication between the characters. also surprised how owen showed up in the final scene does the school not have ANY security guards? AND LESS BRITISH MUSIC PLEASE AND THANK YOUUUU. The end credits scene was a lot more comedic in the messaging.
