10/06/2015 Actually better than the first. there's some fun to be had here. See more 11/17/2013 This is even more fun than the first one and I actually prefer this one to the original Oblivion in many ways. Just good mindless sci fi western silly campy fun. See more 08/07/2011 Not quite as good as the first Oblivion film in general even if there are improvements made but it still has enough going for it to be enjoyable. It was nice to see all the actors returning to reprise their roles... even if they had died in the previous film. I'd guess this film was shot right after the first film finished (or perhaps at the same time) in order to use the same costumes, locations, etc. as there really isn't much difference between the two films short of the story. Missing from this film is the caked on comedy of the first but George Takei also doesn't have the great comedy he did in the first film. It's too bad that this film wasn't able to keep the all the good from the first film, add on to them and manage to get rid of all the bad. Instead we get some good, some improvement, some bad, and some added bad. All in all, about the same as the first film... just not quite as good. See more 05/13/2009 If you go into this flick expecting a slightly less cool version of Firefly then you will be sorely disappointed. However, if you’re at all familiar with Full Moon Entertainment or if you don’t have the predilection to raise eyebrows then you will be rewarded with a fun silly sci-fi Western romp that fully utilizes both its young and old, washed out actors. Just like in the original, Meg Foster, Julie Newmar, George Takei, Andrew Divoff, Musetta Vander, and Isaac Hayes all put in some fun performances. But what sets this one apart is the introduction of the dandy bounty hunter The Sweeney played by Maxwell Caulfield. He is a hoot! I loved Caulfield as Rex Manning in Empire Records and as Shane in Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat but as The Sweeney he turns in his absolute best. Honestly, it’s worth checking out just for him. It had been a while since I last watch [i]Oblivion[/i], and was worried that I would have forgotten too much by now to fully understand this sequel. Good thing there was that really long recap sequence at the beginning of [i]Backlash[/i] that reminded me of what I had forgotten. Or is that a bad thing? I will say that I do like that the [i]Oblivion[/i] films fuse together science fiction movies with western movies. Kind of like how the television series [i]Firefly[/i] and its theatrical film [i]Serenity[/i] did, just with more cowboy hats. But much like the first film, [i]Backlash[/i] was unable to keep my attention through its run. And I sat there hoping this sucker would end already. It isn't because [i]Backlash[/i] is a low budget feature, but the movie just doesn't feel like a movie to me. The story is almost nonexistent, and the actors for the most part aren't giving their all to their roles. Plus the film makes the same mistake of having some of its cult actors (George Takei, Isaac Hayes, Julie Newmar...) make references to other more successful projects of theirs from the past. The one saving grace was Musetta Vander as Lash, a sort of Bettie Paige-like outlaw. Her performance is far from award worthy, but she does offer up an over the top performance that is livelier than the rest of the cast. She looked like she was having fun, and when she was on screen I was having fun as well. There are some minor elements that I thought worked; Miss Kitty's (Julie Newmar) twist in the plot, whatever that turtle monster was at the end of the film. But not enough to make me enjoy this film. As far as Full Moon series go, this is one of the weaker ones I have seen. Which is unfortunate since it has a lot of great ideas to it.[/size][/font] [/left] [/center] See more Read all reviews
