Critics Consensus

Bolero combines a ludicrous storyline and wildly mismatched cast in its desperate attempts to titillate, but only succeeds in arousing boredom.

Totally bonkers from start to finish. Bolero never quite lets up being totally mesmerising as well. Go to Full Review

Bad as Bolero is, it is unfortunately not bad enough. Go to Full Review

No doubt [the climax] distracted the writer-director from the dialogue, which is in every sense unspeakable. Go to Full Review

This turkey was second only to Cannonball Run II as the worst film of 1984. Go to Full Review

When you look at the first sequence in Bolero, it's clear that this is just a picture book. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Some movies that didn't start out to be comedies wind up in the so-bad-that-they're-great category. Not this one. It's just so bad that it's awful. Go to Full Review

Jens B @Jens97 2d It’s a massive "yikes" when it comes to the relationship between John and Bo, but with *Bolero*, the pair delivered a stinker of such epic proportions that one can only watch in awe. And the final sex scene, in which Bo Derek finally reaches ecstasy, has to be hailed as the greatest sex scene of all time. A masterpiece! See more Music Videos I @Movieguy1977 Mar 14 Who thought this was a good idea? Genuinely, possibly the worst film I’ve ever seen. The storyline Is abysmal, the acting is atrocious and getting through this was absolutely tedious. It’s baffling why this "film" exists. See more thiago s @Thiagostone 08/18/2025 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Tim R @RT27542570 01/29/2025 A vanity project for John Derek to show off how hot his wife is and also has a scene that features a 14 year old girl doing a full frontal nude scene. See more Jeff M @jeffmarshallmovieblogger 02/11/2024 I confess that my cinematic weakness is bad 80s movies. When I'm in a certain frame of mind, there is nothing more appealing than a so-bad-it's-good film from this decade. And BOLERO is a textbook example. I would not put up an argument with anyone who feels like a two-star rating is overly generous. You will not find worse acting or screenwriting anywhere, but there's a certain embarrassing joy in watching impossibly good looking albeit questionably talented actors make a movie about nymphomaniacal bullfighting. It's like aliens from the planet Vultron visited Earth for a few days and tried making their own version of human love. It's ridiculous, preposterous, often jaw-droppingly horrendous and must be seen to be believed. And in spite of it all, it IS watchable. Obviously those offended by lots of nudity and sub-human emoting need not make the effort. But if you're trying to keep up to date on your Razzie movies, this is required viewing. See more 07/18/2022 It was terrible, I loved it. In the midst of the dialogue being less than poetic it has a lot of moments that are true of human behavior. And boobs:) and ponies! 10 stars See more Read all reviews
