A group of armed robbers fleeing the police head for the New Jersey Tunnel and run right into trucks transporting toxic waste. The spectacular explosion that follows results in both ends of the tunnel collapsing and the handful of people who survived the explosion are now in peril. Kit Latura is the only man with the skill and knowledge to lead the band of survivors out of the tunnel before the structure collapses.

Critics Consensus

The opening's got a great fiery explosion and Stallone puts in another earnest, sympathetic performance, but all else in Daylight feels designed to annoy the audience into submission.

The survivors are a shrill, ungrateful lot, so Latura might as well have stayed home and watched Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot for the umpteenth time.

Best scene is Stallone grappling down through the tunnel fans. But the whole thing kinda drags...doesn't help that they couldn't make the trapping of the tunnel more realistic.

The cliches here were tired 30 years ago when it came out but the real problem is that the set-up is so dull. There's only so much you can do with a collapsing tunnel.

It’s not meant to be clever or groundbreaking. This is simply mindless, thrilling action, which serves its purpose nicely. Stallone shows some pretty decent acting ability here. Don’t go in expecting finesse, art or creativity. Go in expecting explosions and impending disaster and an average tough guy swooping in to save the day.
