Chris S @Janomi Aug 10 Die Hard with a Vengeance is excellent because Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson give the movie a completely different energy. McClane and Zeus are angry, funny, tense, and constantly clashing, but their reluctant teamwork becomes the film’s biggest strength. Moving the action across New York also opens the series up in a great way. The city becomes part of the puzzle, the danger, and the personality of the movie, while the riddles and timed bomb threats make McClane feel trapped inside a city-sized game. Jeremy Irons gives Simon elegance, intelligence, and a personal franchise connection. He is not Hans Gruber, but he brings enough style and control to make the villain side work. The final stretch is weaker than the setup, but the first two-thirds are terrific, and Die Hard with a Vengeance is fast, clever, and highly entertaining. Jackson. The result veers successfully into buddy cop movie territory: the dialogues, their delivery and in general the situations capably walk the fine line between amusing and engaging, even though the finale does drop the ball a bit. Barring this unfortunate change of pace, it's arguably the finest, most enjoyable sequel of the franchise.
