Disillusioned knight Bowen (Dennis Quaid) befriends Draco (Sean Connery), the last of the dragons, and the two begin scamming village folk as Bowen repeatedly "kills" Draco for money. Bowen soon learns that Draco is the same dragon who once saved his former student, now King Einon (David Thewlis), from death by giving him a piece of his heart. Einon is now a merciless tyrant, and Bowen is compelled to stop him -- but the bond between king and dragon means if one dies, the other does as well.

Critics Consensus

Dragonheart gives us medieval action, a splendidly mulleted Dennis Quaid, and Sean Connery as a talking dragon -- and, unfortunately, a story that largely fails to engage.

Rob Cohen's Dragonheart is one of the most sublimely silly movies I have ever seen. Since it combines its silliness with special effects that are, quite simply, sublime, I must resist the urge to take easy shots at it. Go to Full Review

Erin M @Mightymotes Apr 13 Great fantasy movie when it came out in the 90’s. Obviously it’s a bit dated compared to better cgi nowadays… but the fact it still gets by today as decent, shows you what it was upon its release!!! Always a fun watch and uplifting story! See more Blake- N @PBSAniDom Apr 9 Dragonheart (1996) is a decent fantasy adventure with a lot of heart, though it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the best in the genre. The visuals, especially the dragon animation, were impressive for the time, and the story has its moments of charm and humor. Dennis Quaid and the dragon’s voice performance add some warmth, but the plot can feel a bit predictable, and some characters are underdeveloped. It’s enjoyable and entertaining enough to watch, but not truly memorable. Overall, a solid 6/10. See more Noah H @Noah85 Dec 31 Underrated medieval fantasy classic. The action is fun, it has an important message about power, a CGI dragon that still looks pretty good today, lighthearted humor with serious moments, and a score by Randy Edelmen that absolutely SOARS and may make you cry. For me, it did. Definitely one of Sean Connery's most underrated roles. See more Jan K @RT67816879 Nov 12 A 90-ies classic fantasy story, that is probably most engaging for younger viewers. Visuals have dated, but don't take away from the pleasure of watching. Connery is a clear star in the show, lending his pleasant and recognizable voice to the dragon in the story. Quaid is a solid lead actor, but they both can prevent the story from being a cliché-ridden, shallow plot. In all, its not bad and entertaining - but expect a 90-ies standard. See more Steven A @RT08632818 Nov 7 This movie is one of the best fantasy movies I've seen. A little silly at times but in a good way, the graphics hold up pretty well considering the movie's age and the characters are fun to watch. The movie even tries to take itself seriously in fantasy elements that I feel works. I enjoy the Knight's vow and the plot works for me. It's not perfect by any means but it doesn't stop the movie from being very watchable. Compared to other fantasy films that's high praise. See more Read all reviews
