nick S @Nick_S Aug 22 Just as it starts to sag and feel like a stock standard detective case, Friedkin injects a chaotic chase scene to take it up a level. All up a very well done movie. I found the dialogue a little muddied with background sound at the start but that cleared up. Acting was great. The entire film is about chases. Police chase on foot, in cars, on the train, chasing girl on a bike and tracking drugs. It almost becomes nauseating. The supposed classic car chase scene is ok but nothing special. The ending is flat. See more Mate P @matepolcz Jun 6 The French Connection is an extremely realist crime and action thriller. The characters are rooted in reality and the film doesn't shy away from showing the audience that they are not the best people. That was a bit uncomfortable for me in the beginning, but after a certain moment in the coloured bar that feeling mostly disappeared. There isn't much talking in the film, which sets the tone. The story isn't the biggest thing in the world, but it perfectly blends genres. Also, I loved the train sequence. The directing is rooted in showing everything visually, because as I said there isn't much dialogue. The cinematography is realist with precise framing and a few exceptionally beautiful shots. The pacing is intersting, because the movie doesn't feel fast, but it actually is. The miracle in the time jumps is that they don't feel off. The score is perfect, it isn't something I'll listen to, but it fits the film exquisitely. The cast is good with great performances from the two legends.
