If anyone was genuinely cracking up, it may have been because of how bad some of it was. 😂 Girls Trip felt like a very childish, crude and painfully predictable version of what it was trying to be. The jokes were often so obvious and over-the-top that instead of being funny, they just became tedious and irritating. I kept waiting for it to get better… and it just kept getting louder and cruder. This was basically the Temu version of Waiting to Exhale — same general idea of friendship and female bonding, but with the sophistication and subtlety completely removed. Very cliché, very predictable, and by the end, I was more annoyed than entertained. 2 stars for the occasional laugh. The other three stars apparently went on a girls’ trip and never came back. See more Kevin P @RT55971421 Jul 20 I had so much fun with this one. I loved the fast-paced energetic comedy. This movie is refreshingly crude and chaotic for a girl's comedy. It's like the Hangover for women, but with a lot of heart underneath. All 4 lead characters are really likable and share great chemistry. The film is full of great representation for black women without relying on stereotypes or tired tropes. The movie is consistently really funny. You get invested in the main conflict of the dirty husband cheating the wife's book success depending on their marriage to stay afloat. The whole movie has a crazy fun vibe (except for that cringey grapefruit scene). This movie's version is refreshingly a 4-way friend breakup, even if it's still a 3rd act breakup at least it's a legit flaw for both main characters. The movie has satisfying ending with the new book deal about surviving single. All in all, it's a really funny and raunchy ladies' night movie with enough heart to give it staying power.
