TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Aug 25 Gnomeo & Juliet is obviously a playful take on Romeo and Juliet, and the title alone tells you exactly what kind of story you’re getting. Add the Disney-adjacent animation style, garden gnomes, and Elton John music, and you already know this isn’t going to be a traditional Shakespeare adaptation. The general audience may not have embraced this movie, but I honestly enjoyed it. I wouldn’t call it one of the greatest animated films ever made, but I certainly wouldn’t call it one of the worst either. I don’t think it deserves the rotten reputation it has received. The characters are memorable and have plenty of potential to become marketable personalities if they were promoted correctly. Unfortunately, I think the movie missed opportunities with its marketing and never received the attention it could have. What I enjoyed most was the creativity.
