It's not a picture for cynics, requiring some relaxation while Softley explores old tech and cartoon personalities, but it's a vibrant feature that's superbly executed, making for an entertaining sit for those willing to go along with it.

This was from an era when you didn't need to justify why a movie was being made - entertainment was the primary goal and amongst an unrealistic backdrop, there is an undeniable spirit and enough nuggets of nostalgic gold that solidify this film as one of the enduring cult classics of its subject matter and era. If you don't like Mathew Lillard's character, you have no soul. If you can't get around Renoly Santiago's completely unashamed character, you're not fun at parties. Mr The Plague could only be written in the 90s. Penn from Penn and Teller and Marc Anthony being cast for 3 minutes screen time tops are the sort of nuggets I'm referring to. Enjoy Hackers for the fact it takes itself just seriously enough. Own it on DVD so you don't have to worry if the Ellison Trust decides something in this film upsets their delicate sensibilities - like the idea of taking down a corporation for illegal financial practices from public payphones while wearing camo gear and roller blades.

Might have been groovy at the time, but it struggles to gain momentum. Not very well written, research should have shown the kit (kids and computers) is ridiculous. Cast acts awkward most of the time. Should interest a niche audience but imo it just does not cut it

I just don’t know what to say… What is it with the wardrobe? Everyone is just wearing the most insane clothes. Story is kinda cool i guess? Great nostalgia for "wtf were we thinking in those days??"
