Poised with sharklike self-assurance, Marla Grayson (Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike) is a professional, court-appointed guardian for dozens of elderly wards whose assets she seizes and cunningly bilks through dubious but legal means. It's a well-oiled racket that Marla and her business-partner and lover Fran (Eiza González) use with brutal efficiency on their latest "cherry," Jennifer Peterson (two-time Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest) -- a wealthy retiree with no living heirs or family. But when their mark turns out to have an equally shady secret of her own and connections to a volatile gangster (Golden Globe winner Peter Dinklage), Marla is forced to level up in a game only predators can play -- one that's neither fair, nor square.

Critics Consensus

A searing swipe at late-stage capitalism, I Care A Lot is an exhilarating pitch black comedy with a wicked performance from Rosamund Pike.

Audience Says

Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage do good work, but they're acting in a dark and ugly story that doesn't give the audience anyone to root for.

It is refreshingly pungent, and as the engine of a crime plot with some truly outrageous twists, Pike gives an outstandingly nasty performance worthy of major attention. Go to Full Review

If the film itself doesn't care to deliver on its own promise, it's hard to imagine why we should care at all. Go to Full Review

Filmmaking this perversely amoral is never going to be a crowdpleaser, and early responses have been aggressively divided, but I Care a Lot isn't out to be liked: like the best con artists, it gets you caught up in its strut. Go to Full Review

Andy J @RT64851783 1d Really cool premise, and interesting casting. The issue is, the film couldn't work out whether it was a revenge flick against the obviously evil and sociopathic Marla, or a girl-boss kick-ass movie where Marla is the hero. Personally, I think that the premise of watching a sociopath getting her comeuppance would have been much better than what it was. Many of my frustrations were born out of the obviously insanely incompetent court scenes, that just felt shallow and convenient to the plot. The fact that horrible people (ie the corrupt doctor, corrupt care home manager and staff etc, were portrayed in weirdly sympathetic ways) just grated on me. There were also really obvious rips on Goodfellas (the red taillight body disposal scene) and layer cake (the ending). A cooler premise would have been a slow burn mob revenge plotline, where she has her life pulled apart piece by piece and her scam be exposed. That I could get behind. See more I R @IggyPop May 25 Absolutely horrible!!! The beginning was an interesting theme; how it’s easy to take advantage of vulnerable people (specially elderly); but then the story line gets completely Lost and it becomes the most absurd story. TOTAL WASTE OF TIME See more Airendercraft T @RT22230215 May 13 worst movie i have ever seen in my life. Was somewhat decent until the middle where it turned to genuine shite. remove this media from the internet at once. See more Kat L @RT09657103 May 9 I did not care for this movie much. I appreciate the idea of bringing various forms of elderly abuse into light. The beginning - someone's life just fully taken over - felt like a horror film, though a too close for comfort. But we need an escape, hope, seeing justice served, to be able to cope with the real life horrors. The brilliant cast did a brilliant job in portraying unpleasant people, but we would've needed someone to root for. This film was too cynical, too nihilistic. See more Sharang L @Scribe187 May 8 I wanted every character to die horrible, painful deaths. Pray what made the makers come up with this sad, tone-deaf film? The performances are okay which is why I refrained from rating it even lower. See more orpo P @Oliori May 4 Dont watch, movie is infuriating. I made accont just to review this movie.
