Leonard (Guy Pearce) is tracking down the man who raped and murdered his wife. Very complex detective thriller. Guy Pearce (leads) a terrific cast alongside Carrie Anne Moss. If you want to see the beginnings of how Nolan became such a big director, this is one to watch.

Think of all the ways that a linear film structure stabilizes us - the cause and effect chain of events. But Memento is about a character completely destabilized, so Nolan destabilizes us accordingly in a way maybe no other movie has.

Memento would only be half as fun with only one gimmick or the other. Instead, the backward storytelling and the frozen man make for a wonderful pair, combining into something far more redemptive than it sounds.

The beauty of director and screenwriter Nolan’s story is that it forces the viewer to reconsider what they’ve just seen constantly, throughout the movie. The ending is the beginning and the beginning is the ending.

Memento places you in the mind of the protagonist in a fascinating way—by running it in reverse, you only know as much as the protagonist remembers—and that constantly makes you question what you’ve been told and what you see next.

(Overall Rating: 3.96/5) (Very Good) --- (Cinematography/Atmosphere: 4.25/5) Transitions, subtle frames, the gradients for the different time frames, all come together in a really cool way. --- (Storyline/Plot: 3.75/5) How the story was told was really cool. The story itself though didn't give me the answers I think I wanted. But maybe that's just how it is. --- (Acting: 4/5) The acting was great, Guy Pearce was fantastic. --- (Character Quality: 3.5/5) The way the story is told you really never get a sense of who anyone really is, again, maybe thats just how it is. --- (Entertainment Value: 4.5/5) Not a lot of action but so many pieced together fleeting moments makes for a fun ride. --- (Expectations vs. Reality: 3.75/5) I feel like I have to re watch it not because I want to, but because I must. Its also a film I feel like I might have to re-rate after a second or even third viewing.

This movie is incredible in all aspects, it takes you on a journey over time where you feel lost and start thinking like the main character. It’s one of those movies where you have to really focus so you don’t get lost with the time lapse. I give this movie a 9.4/10, it’s one of Nolan’s most underrated movies but a true masterpiece.

This is Christopher Nolan at his finest. This is one of the most surreal mental journeys I have ever gone on while watching a movie. I didn't know what to think, I didn't know who to trust, half the time I didn't know what was happening, and I loved every minute of it. Nolan is truly a master of mind-bending storytelling, cementing him as one of the greatest directors of our time. I definitely recommend this for thriller, mystery, and drama fans!

It’s totally fine! 3 laughs and a cloud of dust. Holds up over time and every rewatch has you hoping it will end differently. It doesn’t. Still good though!
