McMenamin cites Clerks as an influence, and I’d urge him to head towards the best of Kevin Smith rather than the worst. Go to Full Review

Misfits is a shaggy little flick whose heart is far larger than the sleeve it’s worn on. Go to Full Review

Misfits succeeds more on emotional intent than technical finesse. Its celebration of friendship, loyalty, and imperfect people trying their best gives it a genuine core. Go to Full Review

There are hints throughout of potentially engaging themes...Unfortunately, they are squashed by sheer narrative sloppiness, waffling dialogue, overuse of f-bombs, poor continuity and, painful as it is to say, a pretty ordinary lead performance. Go to Full Review

McMenamin beautifully balances love lost with the kind of love that sticks around. Go to Full Review

Meola and Simone, in particular, are top-notch and give the film the grounding it definitely needs. You believe these two together and that gives an honesty to Josh's grief. Go to Full Review

Plexi F @PlexiFilmShow Feb 5 Funny, heartfelt, and yes, delightfully cliché in all the right ways. It’s an eye popping experience with a satisfying feel good family a holiday movie. See more JJ L Feb 5 I loved seeing Josh's story unfold, and I really felt for him. He's got a great heart and puts his family first, even when it's hard. Some people might think that's a weakness, but I think it's admirable. There were definitely some wild shenanigans before the movie got to the real meat of the story, but overall, I enjoyed watching Josh grow and develop throughout the film. He was definitely my fave character! See more Chris G @cmgrega Feb 5 MISFITS is the feature film debut from writer/director Kris McMenamin, and for a micro-budget indie, it punches above its weight class. The story focuses mainly on Josh (Sam Meola) and his struggles to hold his family together with his ailing wife Sandy (CeeCee Simone) and bills and troubles piling up. It traces a path from adolescence to middle age with his gang of misfit friends, wannabe actor Ryan (Christian Levens), den mother Becca (Kat Reeve) unsure dreamer Spencer (Jacob Burke) and innocent Lucas (Russell Levin)While taking place over a few different timelines, the story mostly focuses on the near-present, and after a semi-disastrous Christmas party, a wild scheme to enter a Santa-themed wrestling competition in order to keep the family home, or at least keep the bill collectors at bay for a little longer. So while it's a little rough around the edges, MISFITS is a fun little indie with its heart in the right place, a killer soundtrack, and is certainly worth a watch! See more Steven O @sosaknowsball Feb 4 WE FUCKING HATE SANTA CRUSHER. Misfits is as lovable as it chaotic. Don’t get me wrong, it’s going to be a low-budget watch, but one that was made with a clear intention of love and care. The thing that is so good about Misfits is the erratic and affable humor spread throughout the script. This really feels like a long-time group of friends that are interacting, living and conversing with one another. There’s prevalent themes of grief and pain taking over like a sickness, yet the strength to overcome those hardships with friends, family and a little bit of fortune. While it is great for the budget and equipment used, I’ll say that the narrative structure of the first half was very confusing and was a little jarring to jump back and forth in between. I think Misfits is a good natured, crass-joking family holiday flick with many shining moments. Great job guys! See more giordani v @Giordani1982 Feb 4 This movie is awesome.
