Soon after moving in, the young boy claims to be haunted by a mystical creature that inhabits the surrounding lake. Despite the efforts of the overprotective mother, the boy's nightmares keep surfacing until they reveal an unexpected twist. Set in the 1950s, "Monstrous" tackles the domestic horrors of a family coping with their traumas while they try to adjust to a new life. Despite the stunning visuals and the remarkable period representation, the existence of a monster as an extension of the family’s drama is a metaphor that often feels inconsistent. Since this element of ambiguity has been used in many other movies with a similar narrative, it doesn't take long for the viewer to uncover the real tragedy at play. Mas querer ludibriar o expectador mudando tempo foi legal, mas ficou sem explicação. No fim não sabemos se o monstro era real ou coisa da cabeça dela, e se a casa foi destruída por ela, ou se ja era uma espelunca. E se a mobilia seguia o tempo atual ou não. Se tivessem tratado com mais carinho a idéia, com certeza seria um filme melhor.
