Tony Manero doesn't have much going for him during the weekdays. He still lives at home and works as a paint store clerk in his Brooklyn, N.Y., neighborhood. But he lives for the weekends, when he and his friends go to the local disco and dance the night away. When a big dance competition is announced, he wrangles the beautiful and talented Stephanie to be his partner. As the two train for the big night, they start to fall for each other as well.

Every so often a film comes around that seems to have its finger on the pulse of society and it makes such an impact that it changes pop culture. Saturday Night Fever was that film in the late 1970s.

Most of this is random chaos by stereotyped big city kids, and the plot is sufficiently weak... very weak, "boy meets girl, boy rapes girl, they decide to become friends"... that the plot can't make up for the cheap-fill action, which is to this movie what sawdust is to bread. There is some good music, and some good dance scenes, but in either modern, or classic context, if it's music and dance you're here to see, there's plenty of better choices. Don't waste your time and money on this classically bad movie.

The first half of this movie was ok, the dancing is terrible but it was funny to laugh at as an old movie. The second half ruined it for me - glorifies violence against women - I get this is a 70s movie but it is not enjoyable to watch as a woman. None of the characters were very good and the scenes felt cut together with unclear plot progression. Can’t for the life of me understand why this is a classic

It was alright. Didn't get into it as much as I thought I would. Cool and well choreographed dance scenes but the profanity got a little grating. IT DIDN"T ADD ANYTHING AT ALL! It was pretty hard to care about John Travolta's character, Tony because he is such a jerk for SO LONG. I will admit, it was kind of nice to see him apologize to Stephanie for what he did to her but by then the movie was pretty much over. Can't say I liked it very much. Don't let my opinion prevent you from watching it, though.

Synopsis
