See more Ed B. @EdLee May 21 Shenandoah, is a movie that’s so dynamic in many facets. Mainly the performance by Jimmy Stewart as widower patriarch of large family during Civil War. The movie has a wonderful tone of the importance of family. Stewart’s performance is strong and emotional as a father grappling with adversities of searching for his missing son during the war. See more Tani B @RT97000350 08/09/2024 One of the few films I can watch over & over again and still find something new, I always cry even tho I know the ending but this isn't a sentimental mushy story, it's gritty when it needs to be and opens your eyes to the the atrocities of war & the sacrifices people/families are forced to make. It is a beautiful film with stunning cinematography. Besides the obvious, ie James Stewart being one of the finest actors ever, the scenery is stunning, and the entire cast do such an ace job that you truly believe they are a real family. The horrors of war, and the hatred that existed amongst fellow Americans is told on such a personal level, he wanted no part of the war but was dragged into it. It leaves me wondering how we've come so far from then but find ourselves back to a similar divide. I love this film, I rarely want to watch it with anyone - it's one of those films I immerse myself in 100%. One of my top 10 all time faves. It also models well how a family can support each other in good times and bad. As the tragedies pile up, watching how Stewart responds gives this movie grit and insight.
