In the Holy Land, the Roman occupation has produced a cauldron of oppression, anxiety and excessive taxes levied upon the Jewish people. Fearing the wrath of Roman governor Pontius Pilate, Jewish high priest Caiaphas tries to keep control of his people. That control is threatened when Jesus arrives in Jerusalem, performing miracles and spreading messages of love and hope. Those who fear that Jesus will inspire a revolution decide that he must die.

The faithful may find their spirits raised, but on purely cinematic terms, Son of God is too dull and heavy-handed to spark much fervor.

The hunk factor aside, it's bizarre that a film presumably conceived as an act of devotion should feel so lacklustre and impersonal.

Overall, Spencer's deeply reflective yet recycled conscious-driven epic seems robotic and compacted. As a faith-healing and feel-good big screen offering, Son Of God deserved much better polish and prose at the center of its pronounced pulpit

As usual you see a Christian movie shredded by critics and favored by the mass audience . Sure its in need of some expertise but its the rotton tomatoe critics that need the make over . So many times they have missed it .

2 hours and 18 minutes based on the Bible. Rated PG-13 for Some Sequences of Violence and Bloody Depiction of Crucifixion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been a Catholic my whole life. Catholic school and practice till this day. So over 50 years. Anyone who is interested in the greatest story, the full 10 hour series of The Bible is the way to go. I watch the Son of God on holidays as my refresher. LOL. It is a shorten version of the 10 hour mini-series put into about 3 hours. So if you are getting into Catholicism/Christianity , then the mini-series. If you are a life long Catholic/Christian the Son of God is done very well in itself. Also children and teens can watch age appropriate version of the Jesus story on YouTube meant for little ones and tweens.

The cast is excellent, especially the actor playing Jesus, and production design amazing. This is the story, I highly recommend this film!!
