Jamilah seems to have it all. She's the president of her sorority, captain of the step dance crew, student liaison to the college dean, and she has been accepted to Harvard Law School. When the hard-partying white girls from Sigma Beta Beta embarrass the school, Jamilah is ordered to come to the rescue by teaching the rhythmically-challenged how to dance, in hopes of winning the Steptacular, the most competitive of dance competitions.

Step Sisters tries to straddle a similar line, and it has a lot to say about race, sorority life, and sisterhood, but its characters are not so much real people as mere vessels for different viewpoints.

Step Sisters is especially disappointing coming from director Charles Stone III, who gave the world the joy of Drumline. No one would care about Step Sister's generic script if the dance scenes popped.

There are other stories to tell about being Black on a PWI campus that don't involve racial injustice and trauma... Jamilah brought that narrative to life in Step Sisters, and honestly, that's good enough for me.

...while the stigma of skin color starts to fade in time for the film to make its statement on different worlds (from race to gender to class) relating and bonding over what they have in common, it's just a bit too late.

Bad. I just plain don't care for musicals, but even by that standard this is embarrassing. Cookie cutter characters from better films, clunky racial justice dialogue inserted at random, and worst of all, the big dance number, while not horrible, didn't even live up to 'So You Think You Can Dance' levels. On the up side, the lead female character was likeable and empathetic enough. Take out the stepping and you are left with something like 'Revenge of the Nerds'

I think the movie's consept is great! But the Caucasian Sorority is a little stiff. That expected of course. But it was a little cheesy. But overall a good movie, check it out

Certainly had it's share of funny one-liners and the actors are giving their best effort. Still ends up being a fairly paint-by-numbers, "be true to yourself" story. I wouldn't call it bad by any means, but one would be forgiven if they found this movie forgettable.
