What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Descent 2 goes spelunking for its predecessors' unnerving power but never digs beyond surface chills, although this efficient splatterfest contains enough nasty set pieces to sate the gore-prone.

An uninspired retread of a horror classic, this tries hard to justify its existence... and fails. Go to Full Review

The first-time director Jon Harris recreates the sense of airless, claustrophobic panic that worked so effectively the first time around and cranks up the yuck factor exponentially. Go to Full Review

If nothing else, the sequel has senseless Crawler action in spades, and there is an attempt at a happier ending for those who found the original film’s conclusion too gloomy. Go to Full Review

Despite its regression into full-fledged schlock mode, this horror sequel didn’t deserve the direct-to-video treatment. Go to Full Review

B P @Bradster69 2d Not Bad, but Not My Favorite See more Cinema S @cinema_sensei 2d I wanted to like this, but forcing Sarah back into the cave right after surviving that absolute nightmare made zero sense. Stripping away the intense psychological claustrophobia of the first film turned this into a pretty generic creature-feature. The practical gore is still decent and there are a couple of solid jump scares, but it lacks all the emotional weight and pure, suffocating dread that made the original so special. See more Real D @Realdealoffical Aug 7 This movie is unrealistic in garbage. There’s no way you know survived the first movie after getting attacked by 1 billion of those aliens and what does she live off of there’s nothing but rats and dook water in there. This is hands down the worst movie made in history I know the producers parents look back at this movie and get mad at themselves for raising such a bird brain of a kid i truly hope they never direct another movie ever again. The lowest i can go is one star but if it were up to me this wouldn’t even get an inch of a star. See more Daniel L @Hotchopeppa Jul 2 Love it. This first part is hands down the best supernatural, claustrophobic cave movie ever made. And one of my all time favourite horror / thrillers. But part 2 is arguably just as good. See more Jordan P @Jordanflickmaster May 17 The had 4 years to make this garbage. They really need to start pruning these ridiculous hack writers and directors. See more Titus A @Titus_Andronicus May 11 Complete absolute coprolite. This was a grotesque mockery of the first original film. It is as if they spent four years just pasting together garbage to make more money. The writing was putrid. The directing was vile. The lighting was an utter joke. The cinematography was horrifically pathetic. And the editing was probably as good as they could do with the crap work the production team handed to the editor. This is a sickening embarrassment that should have never been attempted. Especially if this is how unethically and uncaringly they were going to handle the material. This is a perversion of film and justice. It is as heinous as what they did after the original "Wrong Turn" movie. I do not want to not live in a world where this is what is produced and given to the public for consumption by the movie industry. What a disgusting travesty of everything that is holy in the world of movies. See more Read all reviews
