Excellent camera work See more 08/05/2022 The film provides an intimate peak into the lives of two people with type 1 diabetes who risk it all and volunteer for a study trial to cure T1DM. Along the way, you learn the real meaning of the term trial and how it impacts the people who agree to be first, how it affects their family and their community and even how it affects the team that has developed this novel strategy that they believe will cure Type 1 Diabetes. Lisa and Guy take you on a journey that is highly personal and intimate. The film is tender and brutally honest. It made me chuckle, and it made me cry. I was humbled by the courage and the resiliency of the films main characters. It gave me hope and a new sense of commitment. Seeing how sick the immunosuppressive drugs made Greg and Marena's failed transplant were striking examples of the difficulties inherent to clinical trials. Greg and Marena did a fantastic job, considering they are not professional actors. Well done! See more 07/28/2022 I loved this film at one of the theatrical screenings in Los Angeles. It discusses a subject that most people don't know about - Diabetes. It shows what diabetics must go through each and everyday just to manage their disease. The subjects in this documentary (a man and a woman who enrolled in the trial for a cure) were especially compelling! The director, also a diabetic, was able to get great access. She follows the subjects who enroll in a study for the cure for diabetes, as well as the scientists who are working on the cure. It was interesting to see both sides of a trial - the subjects, as well as the scientists working on a cure. I highly recommend this film to any aspiring documentary filmmaker. See more 07/28/2022 I was crying within the first five minutes. I had no idea how devastating or widespread diabetes was. I felt like a veil was slowly lifted for me throughout the narrative arc of this film-- from the toll the disease takes on the patients, to the obstacles in front of cure research. The narration is a brilliant bridge between these worlds. Not many docs successfully insert the filmmaker into the narrative, but in this doc, it's done like poetry. The filmmaker's personal battle with type 1 diabetes, her determination to expose the gravity of her disease to the world and the felt sense of urgency for a cure is captivating. She took me on an unexpectedly emotional journey that left me feeling like I needed to move into action for the millions who suffer and die from this awful disease.
