A state-of-the-art remake of the classic William Castle horror film about a family that inherits a spectacular old house from an eccentric uncle. There's just one problem: the house seems to have a dangerous agenda all its own. Trapped in their new home by strangely shifting walls, the family encounters powerful and vengeful entities that threaten to annihilate anyone in their path.

Critics Consensus

The production design is first-rate, but 13 Ghosts is distinctly lacking in scares.

Director Beck discards Castle's signature cheeky verve, saddling the film with a poor script rife with hilarious exposition, a literally painful sound design and uniformly bad acting. Go to Full Review

By any objective accounting, Thirteen Ghosts is exactly a baker's dozen too many -- this is a zero of a film. Go to Full Review

It takes a 42 million dollar budget and wastes it on the dumbest set-pieces you can possibly imagine. As a result, it feels expensive but not in a good way – in an animal print on furniture way. Go to Full Review

Lorde M. @Lord_Fears 1d Classic 🍷👻👻👻👻👻 See more Alex H. @MovieReviewersClub 3d There are ghosts in the basement! In Thir13en Ghosts you can find spooks and terrors that only belong in nightmares. Don't dare enter Cyrus' glass house, you'll find way more trouble than you bargained with. Now you must deal with thirteen ghosts, all with a vengeance. The Juggernaut, The Torn Prince, The Bound Woman, all parched and famished. Don't close your eyes. They want you. Thir13en Ghosts implores you to have a little fun with some cheap humor and silly editing. Released in 2001, you can't really expect much more. They do quite well with many things in this movie which should otherwise give it a higher rating. The costumes and sound were both on par with but predate the first Saw film in 2004. In terms of graphics they are quite identical, gore and violence the same. The plot has a few twists and turns and tries just a bit to throw you off. They don't have much power though and it becomes relatively easy to predict the next move. The jump scares disappoint most of the time, but the silly jokes and random lines soften the blow taken by the bad scares. Give this movie a try, it does deserve that. Possibly a hidden gem, but treasure nonetheless. See more Plex M. @dadude2k26 Feb 2 Wasn’t bad. Like the concept and it was executed ok.
