DanTheMan 2 @DanTheMan2150AD 3d An atomic-age imitation of The Wages of Fear, Violent Road certainly makes for a more entertaining B-movie, constrained by its modest budget, never quite achieving the nerve-shredding suspense or psychological depth of its famed source material. It's still a relatively modest thriller as all things go, even with its more patriotic, missile-age optimism; characterisation is sketchy, motivations are well-worn, but there's a worrying lack of urgency and intensity with everyone singing happy-go-lucky tunes as they drive down Hell's Highway, which is undoubtedly the better title. Through a combination of hazardous trucking action and a Cold War film noir atmosphere, Violent Road serves as a passable picture, even if it ultimately lives in the shadow of the film that inspired it, while certainly delivering a far more enjoyable ride down its dangerous highway.
