05/13/2014 1991 US Director: Fred Olen Ray Score: 2 Aside from the brief nudity this one reminded me of the afternoon kid's shows that I used to watch in my youth...but not in a good way. The production values are laughable. The SFX are ridiculous and wince inducing. The soundtrack is awful. The acting is bad enough that it isn't even funny to watch after a while. The plot is a bad dime store cliché story. Just don't do it. Stay away from this one, for the sake of the time you would waste watching it that you'll never get back in your life. Spectacularly awful, but exactly what I was expecting considering it was produced by Troma. The acting is horrid, but it is because the dialogue is just so melodramatic and over-expository to make up for the lack of money for sets and effects. Adding in a bit of T&A, this is the type of movie I remember watching at the local drive-in every weekend while I was in high school. Dont get me wrong - this is wretched, but it is supposed to be. Heck, even the Demon Sword looks like a plastic dagger. Though I give it 2 stars because it is what it is, I would recommend you watch it if you are a fan of B-movies (or like the old drive-in theater fare). You wrote this on 9/21/08. See more 01/14/2010 Cult director of schlock and semi-sleaze low-budget films, Fred Olen Ray, comes from the school of quantity over quality, as Ray excelled in dishing out low-budget film after the other, especially throughout the 80's, with most of them being silly, moronic, and downright ridiculous. Wizards of the Demon Sword is no exception, as it has damsel in distress Heidi Paine running from the evil wizard Lard Khoura and his men who are just about to capture her until a charming hunk swordsman (Blake Bahner) saves her and the two embark on a journey to rescue her father and an almighty blade (both from Lord Khoura) that is capable of unlocking evil powers. The two run afoul of a seedy slave trader played by the late, great Lawrence Tierney (Reservoir Dogs) is a small comical role that's easily the best part about this dumb movie. They also meet a grand holy man, mutant highwaymen (one of which is Michael Berryman playing a half-assed, super-brief version of his character from the original Hills Have Eyes), and (once again) stock footage dinosaurs from the Planet of Dinosaurs movie that Ray so loves to put in his films. Aside from a couple of great titty shots (especially one by the beautiful Paine), appearances from Tierney & Berryman, and some hilarious boom mic shots, this movie is dull and buried in unfunny comedy and unamusing sword and sorcery action/storylines. Wizards of the Demon Sword definitely stands out amongst Ray's MANY film credits as one of his weaker moments. See more 09/28/2009 So bad it's good. See more 09/21/2009 A comedy fantasy film directed by Fred Olen Ray, director of such awesome films as Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Evil Toons. It was distributed by Troma, but not a Troma film. A wizard kidnaps the owner of a powerful sword. The daughter of the guy who was kidnapped enlists the help of a warrior to try to get her dad back (as well as the sword before the wizard unlocks its secrets). It tries very hard to funny, but most of the time falls flat. Dinosaurs also live amongst the humans. Only worth watching if you are a swords and magic fantasy-adventure completist (which I guess I am becoming). See more Read all reviews
