See more Jasmine W @jasniquejewels 3d this movie was a masterpiece to me it felt like a very weird but blissful dream I would never want to wake up from. this film was so fun to watch it's so good yet bad at the same time, confusing yet also cheesy and campy but I found myself ironically enjoying and loving every moment of it. the choreography, people roller skating, the soundtrack every scene was just beautiful. The writing is bad, the acting is bad (notably the male lead is an unlikeable plank of wood). There is no coherent storyline - it is something like Newton-John is a Greek muse with an Australian accent who comes to life and inspires the plank of wood to follow his dreams and build Xanadu, which is a place where starving dancers can practice their choreography, often on roller skates. And oh by the way Gene Kelly is in it because reasons. You can add a star or two if you like Kelly or musicals... there are some decent dance numbers... but the movie itself is junk. I was 5 when it was originally released. So cheesy even by 80's standards but I love the music. This is where I began my love for ELO! I feel the problem with this movie other than the horrible writing and acting is that it was released too late. Disco was just beginning the world wide hate for it. I rewatched because my mother told my wife it's a great movie. My wife says she liked the dancing and singing but yea the acting and writing awful lol See more Read all reviews
