Demonstrates why Mel Gibson is a movie star: He can take mediocre material and through sheer willpower -- not to mention oodles of charm -- make it work. Go to Full Review

Ashequl I @Tofa13 3 days ago Payback, has to be one of the great neo-noir movies of the ’90s. The story follows a thief who gets betrayed by his partner, so he goes on a revenge streak to get his money back. The screenplay was great, and the story was good. Mel Gibson’s acting was great, too. The neo-noir narration of the protagonist worked brilliantly. The action could have been better, though, as some scenes felt childish. Overall, a great watch. Loved it! Now this film is a remake of Point Blank with Lee Marvin. Which itself is a good film. with director of LA confidential and Mel great things could be. But did you know that there are two versions of this film. The first is the cinema release the second is Mel’s which is darker and could have been interesting. See on the Blue Ray. Very enjoyable and a roll that Mel Gibson was born to play. See more Robert P @Superbad Oct 6, 2026 Payback is a *3.5* star Movie! See more Ian R @RT23899272 Sep 24, 2026 This was a really entertaining movie. The director has captured an old time Philip Marlow style more common in private detective stories. Great casting ensures that each character is clearly defined without descending into characture. Mel Gibson and Maria Bello were great together. See more Jay W @RT52162311 Jul 13, 2026 "Payback" stars Mel Gibson as Porter. Based on the Richard Stark books, Porter (or Parker) has been adapted several times, with actors ranging from Jason Statham to Jim Brown. And "Payback" has an interesting tone. It is almost playing it like it is a spoof of these types of revenge films. And this spoof feel is offset by the harsh and dirty setting. The whole town feels like it has gotten a plate of grease dumped on it. And Porter's whole motivation is just trying to get $70,000 he feels he is owed. Every complication and added collateral damage, just adds to the joke. It is a hard film to pin down. At times it is too serious to be funny, and other times it is too silly to be taken seriously. See more Jason R @J-Rush1411 Jun 25, 2026 This film is like a pre-John Wick, John Wick, worth a watch at least once See more Read all reviews
