Cinema S @cinema_sensei 2d I really enjoyed the darker, more twisted side of Lecter here, and Hopkins is still ridiculously good. The visuals and atmosphere are memorable, but it feels less tense and emotionally gripping than The Silence of the Lambs. Some parts drag, yet the disturbing moments definitely stayed with me. Ok action See more Ted B @Movieaddicted Jul 12 3.0 stars: As in "Silence of the Lambs," the main feature is Anthony Hopkins. There is only one actor who could play Hannibal Lecter. Julianne Moore did an adequate job portraying Agent Clarice Starling, but no one could measure up to Jodie Foster's portrayal in the original. So much promise with an all-star cast including Gary Oldman and Ray Liotta. Yet the film had to depend on gore for its horror rather than with the characters, with the exception of Hopkins, whose performance was already anticipated. The plot was a little disjointed at times. See more Briana I. @Anaire May 24 I like Juliana Moore but as soon I saw her instead of Jodie Foster I already knew it wasn't going to be as good as The Silence of the Lamb and not because one actress is better than the other, call it intuition. So it wasn't as good for several reasons but it was still decent. I enjoyed it but I think they did too much they should have stuck to one plot and executed it but I felt this one to be a bit busy. Also I hated the dialogue of Mason Verger, they tried to make him sound intelligent with his banter but nothing landed for me. Hopkins was phenomenal as usual but like I said the whole movie felt like 3 different plots forced in one film. Unfortunately, in every scene I was disinterested and found myself hoping for the next scene to be something of relevance. This continued throughout the movie and ultimately I felt disappointed expecting something more, and receiving so much less. Don't go into this film expecting a great storyline, or intense action...you will be disappointed. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you should expect coming into this film...maybe taking a pass is warranted. See more Read all reviews
