That’s how damn good he is! See more Chris S @Janomi Jul 20 The Terminal is very entertaining because Tom Hanks gives the movie so much warmth. Viktor Navorski could have felt like a gimmick, but Hanks makes him gentle, resourceful, funny, lonely, and quietly dignified. The movie works because you believe in Viktor’s patience and decency. The airport-as-a-world concept is strong. A man trapped in a terminal because his country no longer technically exists is a clever setup, and the airport slowly becomes its own little city, with rules, routines, food, jobs, hiding places, friendships, and survival strategies. Steven Spielberg gives the film a light, humane, old-fashioned quality, finding humor in Viktor’s situation without making him the joke. The airport workers give the movie its best sense of community, while Stanley Tucci works well as the rigid authority figure. Catherine Zeta-Jones is good, but the Amelia relationship feels less convincing than Viktor’s friendships. Still, The Terminal is sweet, charming, and easy to enjoy. Tom Hanks played such a fun but caring character yet everything around him felt a little inconsistent. Nothing for me to really dislike, but enough to shrug my shoulders a little. See more K G @KatyG-S Jun 10 Do not terminate this just because it is not great. I do think this movie is a loveable one, it has many liveable characters. Tom Hanks portrays the Bulgarian Victor Navorski trapped in the airport & not able to speak fluent English. I suggest what makes him lovable is that he is naive about languages - we really do love silly characters. I also think Victor has some nice chemistry with other characters, that we could sympathise with. Steven Spielberg is a great director & Debra Zane is a great caster given that the many characters focused on in the movie are portrayed by actors, who are just good at acting. However, not many of Steven Spielberg's movies are great, despite what I mentioned above - it does spend most of its time in the airport Hahaha. Does that bring it all down?
