Critics Consensus

Quarantine uses effective atmosphere and consistent scares to stand above the crop of recent horror films.

Shame on the filmmakers for reducing one of the main characters to an incessantly whimpering, hyperventilating embodiment of fingernails on a chalkboard for what feels like the final third of the film.

Not as frightening as it should be, but still better than the average Hollywood scare-a-thon.

Even with the overacting, I think Quarantine stands out as one of the classic found footage examples. If I had to point people to a movie to watch, I would point them at REC before this. You can find REC right now on prime for a few bucks.

It's the rare remake that improves upon the original.

Has very much a reality television feeling going for it.

A bit of a let down. The film started quite slow, you need to wait until at least half an hour in before the film starts to get interesting. I enjoyed the plot, showing the infected and how they got it. Decent gore, nothing too heavy. The ending was quite disappointing, I feel they could have showed what happened rather than just end it. There is a 2nd film so will give that ago. It’s not something I will be watching again

The US version of Rec is an almost beat-for-beat rethread of the original, made significantly less believable (and thus effective) due to its painfully unconvincing acting and somehow even messier cinematography (constant zooming in and out does in fact *not* make your movie feel more realistic). You could probably add one star if you haven't seen the original though, because the remake does mostly leave the cool and claustrophobic concept intact.

Pretty suspenseful and horrific... but otherwise poor acting. Storyline pretty predictable.

I liked it. I actually like found footage movies sometimes. Rabies is scary stuff.

I was very excited when clicking on the movie, but soon became disappointed about 50 minutes in, when the plot was going nowhere. I understand that the camera work was suppose to be authentic, but i can’t help but notice how artificial it looks, half the time zooming in and out unnecessarily. There was no overall progression to the plot; no full explanation as to what’s going on, besides the dog being the cause, and i felt that the movie did not show Jennifer Carpenter’s best acting, as she was hyperventilating for the majority of the second half of the movie. I think the movie had potential, but i do not feel the plot was given the justice it deserved.
