The "casi" in Casi Divas translates to "almost," and it's an appropriate word for the film as a whole.

A comedy with just the right blend of satire, social comment, myriad complications, romance and heart-tugging to give it some deft shading and variety.

With a surrogate for every demographic and a heroine for every taste, Casi Divas jiggles and jokes its way around as many Mexican box-office bases as possible.

The film's girl-to-girl comedy far outshines its frequent bursts of melodrama, two-dimensional male characters (especially Julio Bracho as the producer of the talent show) and surprising lack of suspense over who will win the contest.

Mildly engaging, wickedly funny and peppy with a lively ensemble cast, but it could have used a stronger dose of imagination, satirical bite and wit.

A funny television satire and heartening viewing experience that has personal lessons in courage as well as much needed commentary on US/Mexican border relations.

This is great movie, not a silly comedy of girls seeking fame, it makes some important points about Mexico, social and show business. Though the movie keeps a very pleasant, funny and entertaining story line without getting in to the drama.

Casi Divas is as progressive as movies go. With the right mix of satire, humor, drama and politics; the movie as a whole delivers one of the most rewarding one hour and forty-six minutes of my life. The cast is fabulous. The delivery was never serious but the political messages of the movie are weighty--which the director and actors found a good balance. I'm a new fan of Issa López.
