Aardvark doesn't know how to do what it wants to do. It's not that the tone is uneven or uncertain, it's that the film doesn't have a tone at all.

Three thoughtful performances and a couple of intriguing interactions, but it is ultimately undermined by an underwritten script. The parts are greater than the whole.

Despite a strong lead cast and good intentions, "Aardvark" is a drag.

Shoaf builds to an odd crescendo and then mocks his audience for finally taking the leap with him. It's an audacious move that brings the third act to a grinding halt and really had me wondering what the director was attempting to accomplish.

I watched this because I was on a Quinto binge and I think the reviewers didn't get it. It's not a feel good movie, but the story is solid and the performances are all exceptional. Mental illness is a tough plot line since everyone has their own take, so watch it for the actors and I think you'll find it's very truthful.

A little too slow, but a sad, realistic story about mental illness.
