Even though this Steven Spielberg film is dripping with sentimentality, I think it works because every single character is authentic and likeable. Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, and John Goodman carry this story with relative ease, and I think everyone would love to be greeted by the calming presence of Audrey Hepburn when they reach the other side. I have actually been surprised to learn that Always is not as beloved by all as it is by me. The narrative weaves together a romance between the two lead characters, with Goodman providing comic relief while also bringing depth during a poignant moment involving a character's death. However, I found the film to be excessively lengthy. It drags on more than necessary, which may alienate general audiences. Critics might view it favorably due to their professional obligation to analyze films, but for the average viewer, it feels overly extended and sluggish. It's not a movie I would choose to revisit; while it had its moments, it ultimately doesn't resonate with me. It appears that the film was attempting to ride the coattails of "Top Gun's" success, but it fails to capture the same energy or deliver a comparable experience.
