Red in D @redindenver Oct 8, 2026 I was familiar with the story, and enjoyed that ... BUT I thought the faux stage play/musical backdrop was ridiculous and weird. See more Pedro Henrique C @Pedro2005 Aug 12, 2026 Anna Karenina (2012) A completely confusing story that will drive you crazy if you try to understand it. Great cast delivering excellent performances in a rather weak film. See more Blake- N @PBSAniDom Apr 23, 2026 Anna Karenina is a decent historical romantic drama based on the 1878 novel, with a strong visual style that stands out immediately. The theatrical, stage-like presentation is creative and ambitious, and it gives the film a unique identity compared to more traditional period adaptations. Keira Knightley delivers a committed performance, and the production design, costumes, and cinematography are all genuinely impressive. There are moments where the emotional weight of the story comes through effectively, especially in the more tragic turns of Anna’s arc. However, the stylistic approach can also feel distracting, and at times it gets in the way of fully connecting with the characters. The pacing is uneven, and the emotional depth doesn’t always land as strongly as it should for such a powerful source material. Overall, it’s an interesting and visually distinctive adaptation that has its strengths, but it doesn’t fully capture the impact of the novel. I’d rate it a 6/10. Every single frame looks so intentional, so perfectly composed, that you could pause at any moment and hang it on a wall. The way Joe Wright turns the story into a theatrical, almost dreamlike experience is just unreal. And the costumes… I can’t even. The work by Jacqueline Durran is beyond stunning — it’s not just beautiful, it tells the story. Every look reflects emotion, status, tension. It’s fashion, but elevated to something symbolic and powerful. I couldn’t stop watching in awe. It’s one of those rare films where the aesthetic hits you just as hard as the story. Truly breathtaking. See more Josselyn T @Josselyn_Espana Jan 1, 2026 No me gustó. Aborda todos los temas dw manera superficial, decepcionada, esperaba más, podría decir que solo reprento un 20% de lo que en realidad el libro transmite. Espero que pronto hagan una nueva y mejor versión. See more Dan F @Dan_Frazier Dec 21, 2025 The stunning visuals are worth a look. And Keira Knightly and Alicia Vikander are also a pleasure to watch. But in the end this very bold reimagining of what must be a great story doesn't quite work. There is too much eye-candy and not enough substance. It almost feels like a two-hour trailer for the book. The staging is so theatrical that I half expected the cast to burst into song at any moment. Because of the over-the-top melodramatic staging, nothing feels real. It is all surreal.
