Marco L @decatur555 Oct 22, 2026 Exactly the kind of 90s action movie I remember fondly Assassins is not a masterpiece, but it is exactly the kind of 1990s action thriller I remember enjoying late on a Friday night. Richard Donner gives the film the polish of a major studio production, while Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas work well precisely because they are opposites: Stallone is controlled and weary, Banderas restless and explosive. The story is conventional and occasionally implausible, and the pacing is much slower than modern action cinema, but that never bothered me much. There is tension, star power, a very specific 90s atmosphere and enough personality to keep it entertaining. Sometimes an action film does not need to reinvent anything. E então surge Antonio Banderas. Miguel Bain é praticamente o oposto de Rath. Onde Rath calcula, Bain se diverte. Onde Rath demonstra experiência, Bain demonstra ousadia. Ele não quer apenas matar: quer provar que é melhor. Essa rivalidade é uma das grandes forças do filme. Julianne Moore também funciona muito bem como Electra, trazendo inteligência e personalidade para uma personagem que poderia facilmente ter sido apenas o interesse romântico da história. O problema é que o roteiro não consegue acompanhar completamente o potencial desse trio.
