Much of the film’s appeal stems from the sizzling energy and sharp dialogue, a lot of which was improvised on the spot by Murphy.

This lickety-split action comedy is distinguished by the wry, character-conscious direction of Martin Brest, who coaxes a silver-bullet performance from star Eddie Murphy that's practically criminal in its accuracy.

Murphy exudes the kind of cheeky, cocky charm that has been missing from the screen since Cagney was a pup, snarling his way out of the ghetto.

Just sheer enjoyment. It leaves you with the pleasurable afterglow of being in the company of someone who makes you laugh even when he's being vicious.

Released early in Eddie Murphy's career, Beverly Hills Cop is still the best example of exactly why his star rose so quickly.

When people ask me what my favorite horror movie is, I tell them, Alien. When they ask me my favorite comedy, I tell them Tommy Boy. But when they ask me favorite movie of all time…..Beverly Hills Cop. Imo, this movie is everything I LOVE about movies. Just enough action, great comedy, characters you love……just love it! It’s not perfect, by any means, but it’s close.

Pure 80s nostalgia with Eddie Murphy at the peak of his magnetism. Fun, fast-paced, and with a contagious urban energy that still sets the rules of the genre today.

It's a simple story with no big surprises, but the way Eddie Murphy leads the cast makes this an instant classic. Eddie Murphy is so deep in this role, not too funny for what he could have done but sincere, genuine, and always present. Great movies.
