Olivia, Lucas and a group of their college friends travel to Mexico for one last getaway before graduation. While there, a stranger convinces one of the students to play a seemingly harmless game of truth or dare with the others. Once the game starts, it awakens something evil -- a demon which forces the friends to share dark secrets and confront their deepest fears. The rules are simple but wicked -- tell the truth or die, do the dare or die, and if you stop playing, you die.

There are some sloppy rules and failed emotional beats, but if you're a genre fan watching Truth or Dare for the clever concept and inventive kill scenes, there's some fun to be had with this Blumhouse release.

Truth or Dare (2018) is a frustrating horror film that wastes a solid high-concept idea on a bland, overly sanitized execution. The premise—a supernatural game forcing people into deadly choices—could have easily supported a much darker, more intense R-rated direction. Instead, it feels restrained and predictable, never pushing the concept far enough to create real tension or fear. The film relies heavily on familiar jump scares and teenage drama, but the stakes rarely feel convincing. Characters are written thinly, making it hard to care about their fates, and the rules of the game feel inconsistent just when they need to be most compelling. Instead of building dread, it often feels repetitive and unintentionally silly. With a more mature tone and stronger writing, this could’ve been a genuinely disturbing horror film. As it stands, it’s a missed opportunity that plays things far too safe. I’d rate it a 1/10.

The mythology causing all the mayhem in this film makes sense, I guess. Good acting with the characters mostly having distinctive personalities. The ending is mildly surprising, and Lucy Hale has proven herself to be equally good at playing a scream queen or as the star of rom-coms.

Horrid movie. Don't waste your time. Characters were terrible, basic, bland and so unlikable. It was boring as hell. The kills were not good. If you want to see people with creepy smiles, watch Smile and Smile 2. This was just bad. Got even worse when the main girls dare was to sleep with her friends boyfriend which they gladly do with barely any pushback...oh the horror, I guess they needed a sex scene jammed in somewhere for the kids to laugh at. Lame. Don't bother and save yourself time.
