Strange events unfold in Six Mile Hill -- a sleepy Irish town that claims to have been traveled by the famed author Bram Stoker -- when construction on a new road disrupts the alleged grave of Abhartach, a legendary Irish vampire said to have inspired Dracula. Deadly and sinister forces terrorize the work crew led by Francie Moffat and his son Eugene, a free-spirited young man who prefers pints to pickaxes, and they're forced to fight to survive the night while exposing the true horror that resides in the town's local myth.

Critics Consensus

Boys from County Hell stands out as an uncommonly good time in the crowded vampire genre -- and proves the Irish countryside is a fine setting for slaying the undead.

The savvy hero has learned from bitter experience that the business about vampires dissolving at dawn was “invented by some German director 20 years after the book was written” but a workable new set of rules for the arch-fiend has been written.

Combining genuine emotional stakes, biting black humour and enough blood and dismembered limbs to satisfy even seasoned gorehounds, Chris Baugh's terrific, unorthodox vampire flick has got it where it Counts.

The homegrown comedy horror genre is given a revitalising lift with this witty and smartly played yarn about an unearthed vampire terrorising a tiny rural community in Northern Ireland.

This spirited horror-comedy, that is as much a monster movie as it is a vampire flick, might not offer much new, but it has a good time doing it nonetheless.

Boys from County Hell manages to be the entertaining horror film it sets out to be while invigorating itself with a refreshing take on vampire mythology.

An imaginative nightmare with a few good laughs, Boys From County Hell is one for the books because of its mercurial vision and innovation with the undying myths. And the subtle shocks that never fade.

Horror and comedy do surprisingly go together well. This Irish piece sets up its stall nicely in the opening gambit of an old couple beningnly watching telly when something awful happens. The rest of the film mostly entertains, and doesn't overstay its welcome. Nice to see one of the 'Derry Girls ' playing it straight too.

3.5/5.0 STARS - This was a fun, quick little vampire tale with interesting twists on the lore. Based on a short film of the same name (and by the same director), Boys from County Hell tells the story of a group of workmen (led by a father/son team who are constantly at odds with each other) who unknowingly awaken a vampire in their town. The film takes a comfortable amount of time building up the main characters before getting into the meat of the story (not counting a short prologue scene, the vamp stuff doesn't start happening until about 30 minutes in). But this isn't a detriment, as it's paced so well that the leadup time feels proper. I didn't expect some of the moments of dark comedy, but that's not a detriment either. All in all an enjoyable watch for what it was. While it isn't the very best vampire movie out there, it's worth a watch if you're a fan of horror. Video review: https://youtu.be/FCfQjBmYsnU

A fun vampire movie, but needed subtitles due to difficulty understanding the thick Irish accents in some scenes.
