Hilarious, inventive, great music score and awesome songs sung by an effective, excellent Nick Apollo Forte in his acting debut. Plus this looks beautiful in black and white making it a great comedy and a masterpiece in film making. Mia Farrow gives an outstanding performance! You won’t recognize her and she wonderfully disappears into her character. My favorite Woody Allen movie. See more Henry D @Henry_Domke Apr 7 Lots of fun, with sharp quips. Mia Farrow is a standout as the abrasive girlfriend, completely convincing and very funny. The black-and-white cinematography was attractive, giving the film a classic New York feel. The recurring "gumbo" theme music becomes a bit repetitive over time. I generally enjoy Woody Allen’s films, and this was no exception. Much to Danny's chagrin, his main client, Lou Canova (Nick Apollo Forte), a washed-up lounge singer making a comeback, is distracted by his devotion to his girlfriend, the volatile Tina Vitale (Mia Farrow). Seemingly one of Allen's lesser known early efforts, it's a joy to watch from beginning to end thanks to solid performances from the leads, genuinely likeable characters, and a clever screenplay from Allen. Even for those who aren't Woody Allen fans, Broadway Danny Rose is worth watching for one scene: the confrontation by the helium trucks. He and Farrow are wonderful together, and she also has a great character as the girlfriend of a meathead toughguy lounge singer.
