Leon H @RT13589101 Oct 18, 2026 Finally caught up with this movie October 2026. The film is awful in its first 20 minutes - hackneyed dialogue and an inauthentic feel. The movie really kicks into gear when Chaplin leaves London and managed to hold my attention through to the end. It does feel very paint-by numbers in it's telling of the man's storied life. Left me feeling like I wanted to watch a high production TV series that would fill in the blanks in more detail. Downey Jr is excellent (Guy Ritchie must have been paying attention to his accent for Sherlock Holmes!). Kevin Kline also shines in a small part as Douglas Fairbanks. Recommended but expect a glossy, rush through which is entertaining but slightly unsatisfying. Downey was great as always and the cast was easily professional, I just thought the subject matter was rather drab. I'm glad I watched it- but would never watch again and wouldn't keep for my collection. It's a lot like how The Aviator was. It strikes a good balance between drama and entertainment, making it easy to stay invested throughout. The biggest highlight is the lead performance by Robert Downey Jr., who brings a lot of depth and energy to the role. The film does a great job capturing both the charm and complexity of its subject without losing momentum. While it may not reach the very top tier of biographical films, it remains consistently well-made, with good pacing and a clear sense of direction. It’s an enjoyable watch that holds up well over time. Overall, I’d rate it a 7/10.
