In Sarasota, Fla., circa 1974, an ambitious, 29-year-old reporter is relentlessly motivated to succeed. She knows she has talent, but being a driven career woman in the '70s comes with its own challenges, especially when competition for a promotion and a tumultuous home life lead to a dissolution of self. With ratings in the cellar, the station manager issues a mandate to deliver juicier and more exploitative stories, a story firmly at odds with her serious brand of issue-based journalism.

It's a haunting reflection on the hopefulness of feminism for the 1970s working woman, which is also uncomfortably effective. And while Christine's death is a part of the conclusion of the narrative, it doesn't define it.

Rebecca Hall is fantastic in this award-worthy performance. It's a haunting exploration of a person who is just desperate for connection and acceptance. It's a tragic tale that needed to be told.

There was absolutely no story and not much to the titular character in the first half. The story needed to be told for obvious reasons, and that became clear in the second half where the performance of the main character's downward spiral becomes more captivating. If someone went into this blind, I can see how they might not think much of it. She was basically an ordinary person doing an ordinary job in an ordinary life where nothing out of the ordinary happened, and this film was just about the same... until the ending.

Rebecca Hall is fantastic. I had no idea that this was biographical. It's an amazing movie where the story of Christine Chubbock feels like a personal loss. I also feel a little guilty because the character seemed slightly comical in her neuroticism and made me laugh a bit. But maybe that is okay.

The entire movie was enjoyable for me. During this time, I was able to gain a greater understanding of the honest Christine and form my judgments. But then it throws you a curveball!
